The impetus for the Meandering series was an unsuccessful quilt top I made a couple of years ago. On this quilt top I had spent many hours machine embroidering vines that swirled over the surface. But the top never worked as a piece of art and so I decided to cut it up into curvy sections and insert gently curving pieces of fabric between the sections of the embroidered top.
I then began to machine embroider vines, ferns, berries, leaves, thistles, and other forms of vegetation over the surface, connecting the vines I had already embroidered. This is the "meandering" part of the process.
These pieces have a serendipitous nature that I find very refreshing and charming.
